The Founders' Journey

The Story Behind Maitrymoon

Some businesses begin with a market gap.
Maitrymoon began with a marriage.

Rahul Sagar Sahay and Rachika Agrawal Sahay are a lawyer couple who have been married for over two decades. Rahul is an Oxford alumnus, while Rachika studied at the London School of Economics. Both built careers in law while navigating the demands of ambitious professional lives. On paper, they had every ingredient of a successful, well-settled life.

What the paper did not mention was everything else.

They married while pursuing their master's degrees. They built their careers while raising two daughters. They lived with Rahul's parents and, at the same time, with Rachika's mother. Rahul began his career with a modest income, while Rachika was often working long hours to establish herself professionally. Then came the pandemic, bringing an entirely new set of pressures into an already complicated household.

Any one of these can test a relationship. Put them all together, and you have a fairly convincing argument for giving up.

They didn't.

Instead, over more than twenty years, they learned something that textbooks, courtrooms and well-meaning relatives don't always teach you: in a disagreement, being heard is important, but being right is not always the same as feeling right.

And when you're surrounded by people who love you, finding an unbiased perspective can be surprisingly difficult.

Your parents may take your side. Your friends may take your side. Your partner's friends will, rather understandably, take theirs. Everyone has an opinion, but very few people have the complete picture. And when emotions are involved, even two honest people can walk away from the same conversation with completely different versions of what happened.

That is where the idea for Maitrymoon began.

As lawyers, Rahul and Rachika had spent years understanding disputes, evidence, different perspectives and the importance of hearing both sides before reaching a conclusion. As a couple, they had spent even longer learning how complicated relationships can become.

So they asked a simple question:

“What if there was someone you could talk to who had no reason to take either side?”

The answer to this became Maitrymoon.

The Name & Philosophy

Why was this name selected?

It's a journey from honeymoon to friendship and companionship.

What does Maitrymoon mean?

“Maitrymoon” brings together the idea of AI, “Maitri” (friendship and mutual goodwill), and a companion-like presence in the world of relationships. The name reflects a belief that technology can create a thoughtful space for people to express themselves, explore what they're experiencing, and find greater clarity — meant to feel personal and approachable, not like a cold, technical tool.

What does the visual identity represent?

The visual identity is designed to bring together two qualities: the clarity and structure of technology, and the warmth and sensitivity a relationship conversation needs. The typography, colours, imagery and layout are meant to feel calm, approachable and trustworthy — creating space to pause, reflect, and express what's actually going on.

What does Maitrymoon deliberately not promise?

Maitrymoon does not promise to fix every relationship, guarantee reconciliation, or tell you that you're always right. It does not replace professional mental-health care, emergency support, or qualified human counselling where those are needed. It does not promise a particular outcome — its purpose is to help you explore your situation and find greater clarity, with an honest, balanced opinion — not a courtroom verdict.
